S/Y Jennifer visits Kizhi churches in Russia

S/Y Jennifer is in the open-air museum Kizhi, on an island in Lake Onega, Russia. Here are almost 100 old wooden buildings; THE most famous is the Kizhi Pogost, two churches and a bell tower (see photos). It is of course a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The churches are just incredible; perhaps the most advanced old wooden buildings in the world. They were built in the 1700’ and are a very popular tourist spot. After Kizhi we are off to “The death canal”, Stalin’s infamous canal that connected the White Sea with the Baltic Sea n the 1930’.Kizhi1Kizhi2
