I have been 2 weeks in the four emirates; Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Part of the future might be in Mastar City, a planned city project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates financed by its governments huge oil income. It relies on solar energy and other renewable energy sources. Most rooftops are covered with solarpanels and there is a 90 000 solarpanel park. When we got there by taxi, we had to change into a electrical PRT, personal rapid transit, kind of taxi with ”drove” us around on tracks. The Mastar Insitute cooperates with the world famous MIT in the USA for reserach on sustainable development about air, water, building materials and computer chips with students from all over the world. We were shown ”clean” research facilities were advanced experinces took place, one of the most advanced microscopes in the world and screens were satellites constantly check airpolution in real time. When Mastar City is completed 40 000 people will live there, today a few thousand. A very interesting project.
